The vacation itself was short but wonderful. We played games, saw a movie, went to the beach and ate many huge and delicious meals.
One event that comes to mind the most was the monopoly game we all played. Nicky and Chris were DOMINATING the game so they decided to get cute and form an alliance with each other to win quickly and decisively. The rest looked and me (the rules lawyer apparently) and were like “HEY, can they do that?” I had to say that they could. Nothing in the rules explicitly forbids that kind of action. So Jimmy and I look at each other (with our ONE property each!) and Jimmy starts smiling. “Hey Dad” he says, “What say you and I form a hobo alliance?” I just laughed and agreed. Everybody also laughed since it was pretty clear we had NO chance of winning. Everybody else had at least 5 or 6 properties and there were only about 4 properties left. Amazingly Jimmy and I managed to buy up the rest (which also gave us one monopoly) before anybody else. Of course the Chris/Nicky alliance already had more than one monopoly and we still looked doomed. I decided to throw caution to the wind and used all my remaining money to put houses on our one monopoly. Jimmy just laughed and yelled “GO HOBOS.” Strangely enough we managed to bypass all their monopolies and they hit ours turn after turn. When the dust cleared the hobo alliance had won! Everybody laughed at the ridiculous turn of luck. It was a really fun game.
