I went to the doctor last week to have something I thought was minor checked out and it turned out to be one of the biggest scares of my life. I won’t go into the details but the doctor was very concerned and did an immediate biopsy.
Needless to say, I freaked.
I had to wait for a week to get the results back. That was a long week. The results came back negative but, the worry had worked its way deep into my head. I resolved to change. I resolved to pay more attention to what went into my body. I resolved to work out with more variation so my body won’t get used to it.
I spent the next few days researching health, people in their 50’s and diet.
I have usually eaten what I thought was healthy. And I exercise all the time. I am good, right?
I had no idea. I am now paying MUCH closer attention to my diet AND my exercise routine. BOTH were completely out of whack. It is amazing to me how much food is touted as good for you when it really isn’t. Or even how many calories are in things. I know I am getting older and my metabolism will probably start slowing down someday soon but, WOW, I had no idea some of the things I loved had SO MANY CALORIES. LOL
I even got a new smart scale that measures not only my weight but also my BMI. I was surprised at how high my BMI was. I am still in the “normal” range but I really thought I would be lower since I am fairly slender. Another shock.
I also joined the “Fitbit” website and joined a few groups to see how I measure up to:
General people in Arizona, East Valley (I am 308 of 537)
50+ year olds anywhere (I am 1992 out of 3014)
50+ year old men anywhere (I am 304 out of 537)
I plan to move up these ladders. I REALLY want to see how far I can climb. Wish me luck and, if you are so inclined and have a fitbit, join in!
Part of me is actually a little happy about this. Weird, huh? But I have felt lacking in things to research and investigate so now I have a new “hobby”. I am going to carefully analyze, inspect, record and evaluate my health data. I actually think I am going to enjoy this.
My kids, on the other hand, will probably HATE this! LOL
