Nicky has discovered that there are coins to celebrate milestones in geocaching. For example there are coins for finding your first 100 caches or finding 24 caches in 24 hours. There are also coins for hiding caches but I don’t think we are ready to take that on quite yet. The one we are looking to get first is for finding 100 caches. I am the closest at 42 caches found but the boys aren’t far away from me. There are more types of achievements but, needless to say, the boys want these coins! Especially Nicky! He is very goal and challenge driven. Dangle something like that in front of him and his is IN!
Personally I think the achievements would be much easier to accomplish by doing caches around the city but my boys prefer the ones out in the wilderness. So last weekend we headed up to the Superstition Mountains and had a blast looking for a few caches. We only found one of the three but a good time was had by all.
As a side note we saw our first snake on this hike but couldn’t get a picture before it slithered away. We also found some caves for the first time and those you can see in the pictures below. This was probably one of our best hikes yet.
Additional side note - They also have regular geocoins that you can buy just to have or to use as a trackable. These are the coins I really like. I have three so far and plan to get more. I included my latest one in a picture below.
To hide is the beginning. To find is the result. To SEEK is the adventure!
